Brief History

The name of the restaurant is based off of the term referring to a device that allows train cars to turn around or switch tracks. The name was chosen because Opp was founded in honor of the railroad. The restaurant stands on what used to be known as "the Donaldson Block" and currently resides in the same building that was named the Donaldson Hotel in 1923 when it was built. Years later it became a restaurant that was purchased by Merrill Culverhouse and Jon Gibson who work together to produce satisfactory food for all of their guests.

Drive out of your way if necessary to visit this culinary gem! It isn’t your ordinary small town burger joint, as one glance at the extensive and varied menu will prove! There’s something for everyone! We started with Brussels sprouts and the special blood orange margarita, followed by the delicious seafood pot pie! Oh my goodness, this was special, but nothing compared to the moonpie banana pudding that ended our meal! I may never like traditional vanilla wafer pudding again! It’s even better than it sounds and is served in the most unique way! (mason jar: plenty for 2!) Can’t wait til my next trip to Wheelhouse!
Worth the drive! Linda D, Trip Advisor.
We were driving to Florida, and needed a place for dinner on the way. We happened onto the Wheelhouse and we’re glad we did. I had the Wheelhouse salad with added chicken, and my husband had the fried shrimp hoagie. My salad was large with fresh lettuces and delicious grilled chicken. The ranch dressing, which I was told was made in house, was a little different from the usual ranch and was oh so good. The shrimp hoagie was piled high with fried shrimp that was covered in their comeback sauce, a spicy sauce that my husband enjoyed. If you are in Opp, go to the Wheelhouse.
Surprisingly good. teachme3244, Trip Advisor.
